The bios upgrades are preformed under dos. Copy the disk to the hard drive, boot to dos and run the bios upgrade program from the hard drive. Boot to dos under windows 98 by pressing the f8 while the computer says booting windows 98 on the screen.

I meant reflash the bios, not change the bios settings. According to Toshiba's website you are supposed to put the flash files on a disk, plug the floppy drive directly into the computer, and boot the machine while pressing the "F12" key. You are not supposed to be plugged into the docking station while doing this.
Well, my floppy disk only works in the docking station because the problem I'm trying to solve is with the PCMCIA ports. Plugging the floppy into my docking station and booting the laptop gets me a message that says:
"Ready for BIOS update. Place the BIOS update diskette in the drive, and press any key when ready to proceed."
After which the machine locks up and doesn't do anything at all for a while - even the reset switch is locked out. The disk contains two executable files, and no further info.
I think I'm hooped. The machine is still useful in that I can do my work on it and pop it into the docking station later to get my data off. OTOH, it is a far cry from the wirelessly connected nirvana I had originally expected.
*Sigh*
