Gave it a try:

L110 64MB
clean installed W2K
installed DirectX9
installed Alturion 5.2 pro

The program runs(very slow) but the 3D selection option is "greyed out".
On my desktop(P4 etc) everything works fine.

I gues your "hardware rendering" scenario applies :-(
