And if all else fails, a cheap <$40 newer motherboard that you can swap out for the current one that'll handle large HDs w/o any problems at all. sometimes, it's just not worth spending so much time on an obsolete HW, when you can at least run a newer MB for years more (assuming at some point in the future, you swap in a faster processor as well). --- eg. here, got a Shuttle XPC SS51G running a 2.0A P4 (us.shuttle.com), but when the 3.06Ghz P4's drop down to $100 or so, will swap that in for a nice 50% speed increase!
