Okay... that jibes with what I've been hearing.  I
guess most all USB 2 PC Cards have that external power
plug since, as you say, it just can't get enough power
for some external devices from the PCMCIA interface.

Is that only used if your USB 2 PC card doesn't have
that external power option?  No reason for both PC
card and the HDD case to be powered I'd guess.
