Ok, so while reviewing the "[Libusbx-devel] Improving linux hotplug disconnect" I found some (existing) issues in the hotplug handling, specifically in libusb_hotplug_register_callback when called with LIBUSB_HOTPLUG_ENUMERATE, see the patches I've just pushed to master. Given the nature of the patches (ie the netbsd openbsd split), I think it will be better to delay teh rc1 release to Monday, so as to give people time to test over the weekend. I esp. would like to ask people to test the netbsd and openbsd backends.
