Damn, sorry that was mistake on my part. It's shouln't read firewall, it's should read router. I'm using a linksys router with a 4 port switch. The problem occurs when I try to reach other people that are behind a router as well. Reaching people that I know are directly connected to the internet there is no problem. The thing is I can use sim (sim-icq.sourceforge.net) or gnomeicu (gnomeicu.sourceforge.net) to connect directly to the same people that are behind a router. Also windows icq, miranda, or trillian has no problem connecting either (for message send, file send, and checking status messages) ?

Are they just doing everything through the server ? or is there something else going on here ?

What kind of firewall do you have and how is it configured?
