The patch above would be fine, if we want space to depend on the presence
of the number.
I put up a new patch <https://codereview.appspot.com/173280043> that gives
multimeasure rests the length that the usual note-spacing rules would
have. The get more space surprisingly slowly with total duration.
I'll put this patch on 'review' to see if people like the concept (and get
make-check results posted later if people do like the concept).
The other approach is to enforce just some noticeable minimum space when
there is a number, and give the multi-measure rests stretchability
according to their total duration.
