Yea so I managed to get a number of fonts working with Lilypond…. Previously I was trying to do it with 2.25.x. But with 2.24.x stable version it’s all working. Here are the fonts I have gotten to work so far:
Obviously emmentaler is built in and works. In addition to that I downloaded from Github the following and got them all working rather easily by copying them into /opt/local/share/lilypond/2.24.4/fonts/ and specifying them in the lily code: Gonville Improviso Lilyjazz Lilyboulez (No braces) Lv-goldenage (no braces) Paganini. (No braces) Sebastiano Profondo (which is old version of bravura converted to lily) I ignored the other free ones from Abraham Lee because when I purchased them from MusicTypeFoundry a few years ago, they included both the SMuFL and the lilypond fonts in their installer, in some cases only lilypond was provided. So the following lilypond fonts came in that installer and seem to work now in both SMuFL (using esmuflily) and native lily fonts: MTF-Beeethoven MTF-Haydn MTF-Cadence MTF-Arnold MTF-Scorlatti MTF-Ross. (Only lily) MTF-gutenberg1939. (Only lily) (Side note, since MTF is now dead it’s probably not possible to obtain Ross or gutenberg1939 anymore). In addition I have the following SMuFL fonts working in lilypond using esmuflily, some are basically free, some I bought: Bravura Leland Finale Ash Finale Broadway Finale Maestro Finale Legacy Finale Engraver Finale Jazz Gootville Petaluma MuseJazz Sebastian November2 Scordatura Graphira Vintage BH LS Iris They all work fine and look great. Bravura requires some overrides related to spacing for some reason and Its unclear to me if any of the other SMuFL fonts would, not sure why Bravura needs those overrides…its an interesting question but I’m still learning lilypond. Near as I can tell there are basically 15 freely available native-lily fonts including emmentaler, all mentioned above. I’m not aware of any others, neither free or commercial, that are available in native lily format. Some of those are from Abraham Lee in lily format only as you mentioned, which he left around before taking it all to MTF as a commercial now-dead venture. If anyone has any other suggested free SMuFL music fonts to try out, please let me know I will happily try it, I have rather enough fonts between these free ones, the ones I have purchased, I don’t think I really need more any time soon, but just curious as to what will work in lilypond if desired. I personally love the fonts from NorFonts at the moment the most. But I also really like LS Iris, and Bravura is of course the most complete single font out there probably, November2 is quite deep also but I don’t love the look of it that much personally. Bravura, Finale Maestro, Sebastian and Leland are all very very solid also, but I just really like the couple fonts from NorFonts they have a slightly more original flare to them while also being very close to same concept as the bread and butter font that everyone has been using for a long time. All workable in Lilypond from the looks of it.
