Knute, I am both a pianist and an early-music singer. Of your two options, I think I prefer slur-as-tie-across-clefs.
But I think the best option might be a third one: a half note that crosses a bar line. Screenshot: [image: image.png] (LilyPond throws a “warning: barcheck failed.”) I’m used to singing editions of Renaissance polyphony in which rhythms stretch over bar lines, so for me this would be the best option.
