Our newly arrived resident -that you black bear- is part of the urban/wildlife interface. We have moved into their turf, and sometimes, they try to reclaim it. No need to panic, just to learn how to co-exist, as long as the wildlife does no harm to humans. A few bird feeders is a small price to pay for allowing this young one to live among us.
Btw-black bears NO NOT attack. As another poster reported, this one fled up a tree when a dog barked. The only time a black bear can get aggressive is if you come near their cubs. When we hike in the mountains out west, and it is the time when cubs are roaming around with their mothers, we carry whistles and periodically blow them to alert bears of our presence. We see them often out west. Our hummingbird feeders are fair game. A sharp bang on a window and they take off. A brown bear is another matter…. So, let’s enjoy this reminder of our natural environment and the variety of species that inhabit it. And, please, keep those posts of sightings coming! > On May 14, 2024, at 6:04 PM, Linda McMillan <mcmillanlin...@gmail.com> wrote: > > The Massachusetts bear biologist I spoke to said there are many bears in much > more developed areas than Lincoln.
