I know the docs say that the quickTimeVersion() is a replacement for 
the quickTimePresent, but I seem to remember that the 
quickTimeVersion() would cause a Lingo error if no quicktime was 
installed (at least while Authoring ...)

I always check the quickTimePresent() before checking the quickTimeVersion()
