The original SLES7 kernel had a bug that caused the dasdfmt hang on large
devices. You need to update the kernel. If you have a support contract with
SuSE you should be able to get a new k_deflt.rpm from them. Otherwise you'll
need to apply the 2.4.7 patches on Developerworks to your source and build
your own kernel.
