You don't have to.  If you look at
cd3/.updates/suse/images/k_deflt.rpm
that will be an updated kernel that you should use to IPL your system.  If
you're running in an LPAR, IPL from a tape to get this kernel loaded into
your system.  If you're running on VM, punch it to your virtual reader.

Rather than put kernel patches on SLES7, you probably should install the
Patchlevel 1 fixes for SLES7.
