Jim, You don't have to. If you look at cd3/.updates/suse/images/k_deflt.rpm that will be an updated kernel that you should use to IPL your system. If you're running in an LPAR, IPL from a tape to get this kernel loaded into your system. If you're running on VM, punch it to your virtual reader.
