Does anyone know how many of what class of servers are being used? Also,
my guess is that some sort of hybrid might be the answer. That is some of
the clusters may lend themselves to virtualization more than others,
yielding variable leverage for different platforms.

Some time ago when this was discussed here, I think it was decided they
were running a bunch of Celeries, and a part of the reason for Celeries
not Zeds was CPU power.

I imagine that if it's true there's a bloke running round replacing
failed boxes, part of the reason for replacement, not repair, is
upgrade. I expect a box of dual-core Opterons would be a drop-in
replacement for a failed box of Celeries, and being a multi-vendor
(including in-house) choice it might be quicker than single-vendor Suns
or [ip]Series alternatives.
