We currently have a Peoplesoft system that needs to be updated. Peoplesoft is several versions behind, Oracle is v8, and it is running on a bunch of old Netfinity servers with Windows 2000.
We asked several companies to propose a turn key upgrade. They will install new servers, a new operating system, the latest Oracle and the latest Peoplesoft. Then copy our data to the new system. Setup a DR plan. And they must be a single contact point for support. The proposal from IBM uses a z9 server, dasd with remote copy, z/VM, and z/Linux. I think IBM has a good chance of getting the bid. It would appear that the division of IBM that is bidding on the project thinks it will work and be supported. I don't know the details of the IBM solution, as I haven't been at any of the meetings with IBM. I am the VSE systems programmer so they didn't think I would be interested. :( If IBM does get the contract, maybe they will let me run my VSE systems on the z9 also. :) Craig Collins wrote:
We are considering running the Oracle databases for a Peoplesoft implementation on SUSE guests running under zVM. If anyone is doing it today we'd like to know as validation of this option. Also, we've been told that even if we get that to work the other pieces of the Peoplesoft implementation will need to go on non-zSeries distributed systems servers and are wondering if anyone has implemented the actual application code and interfaces on zSeries Linux guests. Some people in our organization are concerned that none of this can be done and if someone is doing it already it helps us validate it is an option which should be considered. Thanks in advance for any information.
