Sadly, multi-platform viruses have been created. It all depends on the
hacker's intentions and abilities.

Thanks, but what could a virus jumping from a windows server do to a Linux
server considering that it would be coded for one or the other?  The number
of humans that have become infected with hoof and mouth disease is quite
low.

I am just extending the questioning because I deal with this yearly from the
auditors. Once in a blue moon I feel guilty about lying to them.

Yes and no.  Most people I've ever talked to about this seem to agree that
such a tool is needed/desireable only when a LInux system is acting as some
type of a file server for Windows clients.
