Did you run dasdfmt and fdasd against these two disks before trying to use them? Also, did you specific /dev/dasde1 and /dev/dasdk1 instead of /dev/dasde and /dev/dasdk? The correct usage would be /dev/dasde1 and /dev/dasdk1.
