Scott,

Brocade FOS has had a configuration option called interopmode. This option (up
until FOS 7.x) allowed you to define the brocade switch/director to operate in
an interoperability mode with McData directors/switches.

The difference between native brocade mode and mcdata mode meant that the
domain id for each switch in the fabric is different, depending on the mode.

In Brocade mode, when a switch is configured to a domain id of 1, the value
actually is 1, in the portid provided to the fcp port, when it does the initial
port login (PLOGI) to the switch.

In McData mode, this value assigned in the portid is a combination of the
domain id offset mode (defaults to x60) plus the domain id specified.

The portid assigned is a 3 byte value of the format xxyyzz

xx is the domain id of the switch that the port belongs to (in hex)
yy is the port # on that switch
zz will be 00, for the physical hba that gets logged in. Under NPIV, this will
differentiate between the various NPIV systems.

FOS 7.0 for brocade directors eliminates the interopmode setting, thus all
switches in that fabric must operate in brocade mode. When the change in
interopmode is done, the port id value returned will be different. If the port
does not support being able to dynamically detect this, and force a new login
to obtain the new port id value, then any communication down that port will
fail.

For example, let's say that the previous interopmode was McData (IM2) and the
offset mode is the default, along with the switch/director being configured
with a domain id of 1. Then if your fcp connection is connected to port 1 on
the switch, your portid value, after the port login, will be

610100

After you change the switch to Brocade mode, the port id will then be

010100

Regards,
Peter

Ok - seems there is more to know (working path vs. non-working) - when you said
brocade mode change -- it's not clear what that means...
