Yes, that was one of the original goals...

Rarely is not never. You have to reboot to apply a kernel patch. Period.
Machines with several year uptimes simply have not had those patches
applied.

Yes, you can upgrade the modules, but the core kernel itself cannot be
upgraded without a reboot.

If even one known security hole remains, then that site is vulnerable.

Proper, secure Windows usage policy:

2. Don't click the mouse buttons
3. Don't type anything on the keyboard.

No point in worrying about it. That one is dead in the water. In a vicious
competitive environment like console gaming, there is no way they can win.
No name brand recognition among the gamers, except for a "linux" tag - and
gamers are going to relate linux to business apps - not entertainment.
Plus, the large majority of games for this thing are likely to be utter crap,
unless real game developers step up to the table - and they're already in bed
with the big boys like Sony and now Microsoft.
Microsoft will probably pull it off because they have nearly unlimited funds,
a proven ability to attract developers to their platform, and existing
relationships. Indrema has nothing.
The only people likely to buy this thing are linux users who want to develop
for it, or linux users who want it because of the likelihood of attaining free
open-source games for it.
Although some might buy one to tear it down and strip out the drive, memory,
etc..
>Good thing because it'll give the XBox a run for its money?
Not a chance.

I doubt it would be tainted, since linux' market strength is based on business
background serving - nobody expects it to excel as a gaming environment.
>Good thing because it's using open standards and libraries?

If this thing actually gets any developers, the libraries will be the first
thing tossed out the window when the developers are looking for performance
enhancement. I doubt it would be an issue.

I will agree that not all the software included with the distribution is
GNU, however the majority of of the software in a base install is either GNU
written or released under the GNU license, however, there are some
exceptions like KDE and free commercial packages included with some ditro's.

To the unclued that may be the case. You *must* be stoned everytime
you do an install. I installed Mandrake 7.0 on a laptop recently. It
autodetected everything, including a PCMCIA NIC/modem. It only took
10 minutes to install, one boot, and it was up and running on the
default install. You're just too thick to be operating a computer
(with Linux or Windows). :P
claire reading manual:
"Uhhhhh.... Type cd to change directory? What's a directory? Arrgh!
fsck it! This Linux stuff is too hard."
I'll make Linux easy for you. Anytime you login to a terminal just
type...
$> kill -9 `ps -eaux | grep $USER | awk '{print $2}'`
...and that should solve all of your problems. Repeat as often as
needed.

That's your failing. Maybe you should, like, go to a university like
I did and learn about such things.

Aaron R. Kulkis
Unix Systems Engineer
ICQ # 3056642

H: "Having found not one single carbon monoxide leak on the entire
premises, it is my belief, and Willard concurs, that the reason
you folks feel listless and disoriented is simply because
you are lazy, stupid people"
I: Loren Petrich's 2-week stubborn refusal to respond to the
challenge to describe even one philosophical difference
between himself and the communists demonstrates that, in fact,
Loren Petrich is a COMMUNIST ***hole
J: Other knee_jerk reactionaries: billh, david casey, redc1c4,
The retarded sisters: Raunchy (rauni) and Anencephielle (Enielle),
also known as old hags who've hit the wall....
A: The wise man is mocked by fools.
B: Jet Silverman plays the fool and spews out nonsense as a
method of sidetracking discussions which are headed in a
direction that she doesn't like.
C: Jet Silverman claims to have killfiled me.
D: Jet Silverman now follows me from newgroup to newsgroup
...despite (C) above.
E: Jet is not worthy of the time to compose a response until
her behavior improves.
F: Unit_4's "Kook hunt" reminds me of "Jimmy Baker's" harangues against
adultery while concurrently committing adultery with Tammy Hahn.
G: Knackos...you're a retard.
