That's an entirely different issue. Sony sells only mass market systems and
only in specific configurations. This reduces their technical support
costs. Sony gets a better price on Word if they sell more copies. If they
would sell 60+% of the PC's with word anyways, it makes sense to make it
standard on all your systems to reduce your costs overall.

This issue is all about the OEM saving a few bucks, not MS forcing anyone
into anything.

It's a commodity market. You play by commodity rules. Volume is where it's
at.

You seem to think that a MS should not be allowed to give volume discounts,
something that is common in every market known to man.

That makes no sense - better to try the magic sys rq keys.
Or log in from another box and reset the console.
Network cards are cheap these days - $10 for a 10/100 ethernet.

Or hook up an old surplus terminal to a spare serial port so
you can log in and fix the console hang....

I like to cripple great minds (I am feeling very inferior), but Bill Gates

Like what programs?

netscape?
quake 3 arena?
grip, gnapster, easytag?
word perfect?
mathematica?

Have you ever seen Linux running?

Actually you are confused. You're probably thinking of apps.

Windows has a huge head start in apps, 'tis true.

But the cat is out of the bag, and a wave Linux apps is beginning.

However the look and feel of the desktop metaphor is one
area where we must admit that windows is rather lame
in comparison to modern Unix GUIs.

I don't have anything against Linux/Apache as a web server. I manage
websites hosted on those types of servers and have had absolutely no
problems (ever, I think). I know that there are more sites hosted with
Apache. I do think trying to adapt Linux as a desktop operating system for
the masses is not working, and will never work. All this talk about taking
over and becoming more popular than Windows will never happen and lying
about market share won't make it so. It hasn't worked for Apple and it sure
as hell won't work for Linux.
Linux as a desktop OS has a slow, click & wait, buggy, clunky, amateurish,
Windows 3.x'ish, unappealing GUI.
And:
Trying to blame a companies incredible success on some sort of monopolistic
conspiracy doesn't help the Linux cause much either.

Indeed, I make my living solving problems for my customers, and never
ever blame them for their problems, particularly when their problems are
caused by monopoly crapware. No, I don't expect that the random opinion
of some troll on Usenet is worth even the time to read it, let alone to
engage in any chicken-waving in an attempt to blaim-cast.

If they thought there was any hanky-panky, they would have sued

Suing Democrat-run election boards is tantamount to accusing
your own people of being traitors..... or... an admission that

Next time a Linux machine "locks up", why don't you make a videotape
of the it, and make an MPEG so that we can see this "non-responsive"
machine that's supposedly so badly fucked that the kernel won't even
task-switch to the virtual console manager which can provide you with

It has nothing to do with 8-bit vs 16-bit vs 32-bit vs 64-bit.

Unix/Linux kernels are practically impervious to lock-ups due to
the way they are DESIGNED.

Is ANY of this fucking getting through to your shit-infested brain?????
