I used to overdrive monitors under Windows on a quite
frequent basis. These were typically bargain bin CRT
based monitors. Are LCD monitors really so cheap and
fragile that they can't handle a little overdrive?

CRT monitors in 1993 could handle overdrive.

Timmy! Good to see you finally managed to get your spell checker work.

Or is it just that you had to reinstall MSW and lost your misspelling

AbiWord has redraw problems. Just tried it with a half-meg text file.

Hit CTRL-A and OOPS! Oh dear, let's cause a major system glich!

That's right! As I'm typing now MY WINDOW MANAGER HAS HUNG! All because I
typed CTRL-A in AbiWord. Oh dearie, dearie, me!

Ah, it just recoved. AbiWord is still chugging away merrily. It's eating
90% of my CPU. Oh dear is it having a bad day or what. Whoops! Another
redraw. Ah the text is now all garbling away... it's drawing loads and
loads of it on top of itself...

But a Java application still needs a console to run. Most Windows
applications don't.

That's funny, that's what I do too. But trying to use something BROKEN like
AbiWord makes that very difficult.

It only took me a minute to get a complete window manager hang followed by
AbiWord garbling away. I mean, I wasn't even trying very hard.

It's all very well saying PFE blows it with 100MBytes but AbiWord barfs at
half-a-meg. Oh dearie dearie me!

Dunno about that one. Just seems like most every other page has some kind

Do you have a link for that? Because that's *just* over 5 minutes a

Yes, and strangely enough, most (all?) of the software that *require* reboot
comes from MS.
For 99% of the other software, you wouldn't need to reboot.

You don't need to reboot to install new drivers.

And al spoke unto the masses...
:BIND doesn't run on Windows but Unix and it's clone Linux. If it run on
:Windows, it wouldn't have security holes.

Lord, don't start this fucking open source/closed source shit yet again. Anyone
who thinks that the later is honestly a _better_ security model needs to pull
their head out of their ass...quickly. There will always be software on EVERY
platform with security flaws. The issue is finding them, addressing them, and
moving on in a timely manner, no matter what model you subscribe to.
