Not necessarily, no. The Gimp may provide its own drivers to prevent
information of the print getting lost due to translation to PostScript
which is itself translated to PCL, PreScribe or what not via
Ghostscript. But the Gimp *does* use the standard print spooler and can
make use of standard filters just fine. So this is a *feature*. And yes,
it can be turned off. Trivially.
The only possible remark that one can make is that *Mandrake* uses a
wrong default for their Gimp installation. Others don't.

My big complaint against you is that you start whining without doing any
RTFM. Guess what, you start up your browser to the Gimp Manual (HTML
version), you pick the Index, scroll down to "P" and select "Print".
Here's a little snippet of what you see then:

"Gimp supports the most common printers internally, so you don't have to
have GhostScript installed. If you have GhostScript installed and use it
as a printer filter for your printers, then you probably want to print
with the PostScript Printer option. However, it is recommended that
those of you with Ghostscript installed should create a raw printer
device, and let Gimp print directly to it, at least for testing
purposes, so you can follow the examples in this manual."

Now that was not hard, was it?

HTH.

This is less of a problem with free software as you can shop around for
support and, all else failing, hire a programmer and do it yourself.

I'm fully aware of how shittily MS software runs [on old hardware].
(square brackets indicate optional text - adjust to suit your
preferences)

But in this case, we are just seeing new software running like shit on
old hardware. There is no 'relative performance drop' because of this.
There is an ACTUAL performance drop. New OS's are written primarily to
be used on the current hardware (writing for future hardware would be
bizarre), so saying that the newer ones going slower on the same old
processor you used for Win 3.1 is not a 'relative performance drop'.

In fact, I'd say this is closer to my example of OS's slowing down while
the PC speeds up - you end up taking the same amount of time to boot, and
launch apps. I believe the extra processing time available is used in
some kind of swap-delay routine, make it look like the computer is
actually doing something. Only the apps running quicker even seems to
indicate you have a new machine once MS bangs out their latest
version of shit-in-a-box.

Yes, but the civs don't need handguns to do that.

In reality, that only works in polite company. The actual burden is
always on the reader (with the help of the reader's software). Sad but

I'm not sure why you read AK's posts at all. Besides being off-topic
and irrelevant for the newsgroups he floods most of the time, his signal
(amount of original material) to noise (amount of quoted material + signature)
ratio is usually much less than 1%, and by the shear number of these
posts he is literally screaming to us that he doesn't really have very
important to say. Certainly not something worth listening to; if it was,
why hide the message in all that noise?

It is quite apparent that he desperately trying to approach an S/N ratio of 0.
Oblige him by not reading his posts.

Every place where gun-carrying laws have been changed, the results have
been consistant:

Making it more difficult for average citizens to carry legally RAISES
the crime rate (hot burglaries, assaults, muggings, etc.)

And conversely, making it easier for average citizens to carry
legally LOWERS the crime rate for those above-mentioned felonies.

By that logic, Florida and Texas would be bloodbaths right now, because
the laws are VERY relaxed and let just about every non-felon to carry
concealed firearms legally.

Facts, in other words, disprove your theory.

Are you kidding? Latest distros (RH, Mandrake, Suse) if you install all
the software take 4 to 6 GB of your HD. Not taking sources into account,

Standard C doesn define getc(), putc(), printf(), scanf(), read(), nor write(), either.

What does that have to do with anything?
