It was such an afterthought that they put an IP stack and PPP dialer
into the OS. What you are complaining about is really that Palm hasn't
tried to put all their third-party vendors out of business. You
wouldn't know a "hack" if one bit you on the ass.

So, just like Windows, you can get viruses by viewing email in the
preview pane (see this week's BugTraq)? Wonderful.

I see. You don't actually use a PDA and are just making things up
because you love Microsoft so much.

In real life, people do use PDA's as "overpriced rolodexes". They use
them to take notes, do some simple figures, jot down contact info, and
play games while waiting for a plane. They don't sit and spend hours
building a presentation or doing spreadheets. The lack of a keyboard is
too much of a hindrance (except maybe for gadget freaks).

The advantage over a paper day-timer is that the PDA is smaller and
lighter, and it can transfer data to and from a PC. My PDA basically
replaced the paper day-timer and two calculators that I used to carry.

If I want a portable computer with almost full desktop functionality,
I'll take my laptop along. Hell, if I'm going to be chained to a power
outlet at least I should get a keyboard.

Hey, I read over the weekend about a new virus that can get at MS AND Linux.
It doesn't sound like it is too potent, but I thought it was pretty interesting.

Has anybody else heard anything about it?

I hate to break it to you, but PKZip 2.50 is actually a Win32 console
application, not a real 16-bit DOS application. The last version of PKZip
for pure DOS was 2.04g.
