Explain then how I, a "power user", am able to use DirectCD right now on my
W2K Pro machine?

No, I'm saying that the paying market share (versus the actual market share)
is what matters.

I didn't say all Linux users. Hell, I didn't even say it was the case, just
that this was the perception.

Dude - stop it with this FUD - you CAN burn CDs under W2K without being an
administrator.

NTFS?

The ability to write to CDRW drives on W2K is application specific. Windows
has no builtin default capability to allow non-administrators write access
to CD drives. If you want to write to your CDRW on W2K, you have to buy
additional software.

WOW - so, according to you, someone with "default user permissions" should
not be able to use the modem, write to the hard drive or use their video
card?!

Yes...but only if the judge ORDERS it, because most female custodial

How I brn CDs under W2K:

Installed DirectCD as administrator.
Logged in as my usual self, a "power user"
Dragged and dropped files onto CD-RW
Was utterly not amazed that it worked.

what's the big deal?

Clue for the clueless: THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT issues me a fully-automatic
M-16, and as much ammo as I need.

As well as training me on machine guns, combat pistols, grenade launchers,
rocket launchers, and missile launchers.

Actually, MS both lost and won in this case. Stac lost a countersuit by MS
for reverse engineering DOS, while MS lost Stac's patent infringement case
(note that a patent infringement is not a copyright infringement. It is
perfectly plausable to violate a patent with completely original ideas and
code).

To end a many year old lawsuit that was dragging through the woods.
Settling doesn't admit guilt, only that it is cheaper.

There is only one executives word on that. Intel itself says it never
happened.

> - Netscape (see DOJ action)

Oh yeah.. the company that started with nothing and less than 4 years later
was sold for 12 *BILLION* dollars. Yeah, they really lost a lot.

MS and Sybase worked together on that quite a bit. MS also developed
Sybases PC versions.

I'm not so sure about that.

It was FoxPro before they bought it.

MS doesn't have SGML tools.

So?

And Intuit is still winning.

You could try gnucash, www.gnucash.org. I just downloaded the sources tonite,
so I don't know how well it works (if at all!)
