Oh yeah, right! Burning CDs on Windows 2000 with Media Player is just
a breeze!:
Adaptec Easy CD Creator driver incompatibility
Microsoft is aware of driver compatibility issues caused by installing
Windows Media Player 7 on a computer running Windows 2000 and any version
of Adaptec Easy CD Creator earlier than 4.02, including version 3.5. If a
version of Adaptec Easy CD Creator earlier than 4.02 is installed, the
Adaptec CD-Burning Plug-in cannot be installed. If you want to install
Windows Media Player 7, including the Adaptec CD-Burning Plug-in on a
computer running Windows 2000 and a version of Easy CD Creator earlier
than 4.02, do one of the following:
Remove Easy CD Creator from your hard disk before installing Windows
Media Player 7.
Upgrade to the latest version of Easy CD Creator before installing
Windows Media Player 7.
Important Do not install any version of Adaptec Easy CD Creator earlier
than 4.02 on a computer running Windows Media Player 7 and Windows
2000 because your computer might restart improperly. If you have already
done so, see the Knowledge Base article at the Microsoft Web site for
instructions on how to repair Windows 2000.
What some more good laughs, go to:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q271/2/68.asp
Here is some more fun on Easy CD Creator and Windows 2000:
Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum and Windows 2000
A small percentage of our customers using the Windows 2000 operating
system have experienced some problems with Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum.
There are two issues that we are currently aware of and working
diligently to correct:
1.A blue screen error and
2.The computer takes an extremely long time to boot.
Both of these issues are experienced after doing a complete install
of Easy CD Creator.
We have tracked these issues to the Take Two module of Easy CD Creator.
Before installation, we suggest that any of our customers using the
Windows 2000 operating system select the "Custom Install" option
and un-select Take Two.
If you have already done a complete install of our software and are
having either of these problems, here are some things you can try to
help boot the system so you can uninstall our software and then do
a "Custom Install" without Take Two.
1.If you have a Zip drive, disconnect the cable to the Zip. Or,
have a disk in the Zip drive when you power on the system. (Always
power the system completely down before doing anything to the
internal components of your computer.)
2.Try disconnecting the IDE cable to your CDR or CDRW. (Always
power the system completely down before doing anything to the
internal components of your computer.)
3.Try disconnecting all USB devices that are attached to the system.
When you are able to boot the system into the operating system, you
will need to uninstall our software. Then when you re-install choose
Custom Install and unselect the Take Two option.
We will post a fix for these problems as soon as we are able. If you
wish to be informed by email when such fixes are available, please
subscribe to our weekly newsletter.
If you have any problems with our software we invite you to contact
our Technical Support group.

Netscape mail is a pita, and serious email apps exist for Linux after all
UNIX was used to build the internet in the first place.
I would suggest 'Exmh' as thats what I use myself, this is a comprehensive
mail reader with database so you can find a single word or phrase across
many mail folders.
Then you need something to fetch your email, and I use 'fetchmail' for that.
Fetchmail will happily fetch emails from any number of accounts and passwords
at any interval you suggest.
Any modern disto (I use Mandrake 7.2) will set these up for you, but you still
need to configure certain things to make it work well. If you try and get
stuck post on linux.help or even here if your desperate, and I'll help you
get it going.
Mind you I'd have to unban you first, I'll see how your posts go first.
Insulting me, isnt the way to get any help from this end.

I understand you don't like the CLI, and thats cool, but the Linux cli is
NOT like the DOS cli, and without it, you'll only have a Windows clone.
Exmh displays all pictures inline as standard. Its a GUI.

- Select letter template

Sounds like a few _less_ steps than LyX.
As for clippy, I use the cat. He may ask _once_ if I'm writing a letter,
but only the once.

Nope. I demonstrated in another post how word takes far less steps than
LyX to produce a letter.

Once you've setup a template in word (and what's a layout?), how hard
can it be?

"Once you're used to it", a telling phrase. With Word you can just start
typing.

Ah, now we're onto a different tack. I'd agree writing reports with Word
becomes a less than pleasant experience ("dammit! the picture is on the
third page, not embedded halfway up the fourth!").

Aren't you going to name the file ?

Only if started from a Xterm.
Another way is this:-
- Fire up Lyx
- Select letter template
- Start writing letter
- Print it out
I could start Word this way, and it would be as many steps ;-)
- click on start bar
- click on programs menu
- click on office apps
- click on Word
- click on select letter template
- Start writing letter
- Print it out
Another way to start Lyx is using remote GUI from another PC on the intranet
(assuming you don't have LYX on your PC)
- from an xterm on your machine (wombat) type 'xhost +gronk'
- telnet to the remote machine (gronk) from that Xterm
- type 'display=wombat:0.0
- type Lyx
- Select letter template
- Start writing letter
- Print it out, on the remote machine.

And I pointed out that Lyx also takes the same number of steps (neglecting
that you failed to name the file, in your example).
I also pointed out that Lyx can be run remotely, using only a couple
more steps. By remotely I mean it'l use up cpu on the *remote* linux
box.
Try that with Word ?
