Subject: WWW: Software-Building HOWTO update
Date: Sun, 23 May 1999 22:06:42 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

The version 1.80 update of the "Software-Building and Installation" HOWTO is
now available from the LDP site,
http://metalab.unc.edu/LDP/Software-Building-HOWTO.html, and from my personal
page as well, http://personal.riverusers.com/~thegrendel/build.html.
This was a miniHOWTO in its previous incarnation.

This is for all you Linux users who want to go beyond rpm's and
precompiled binaries, for those who want to learn about installing
and building "tarballs", for the adventurous who have thought about
installing generic UNIX source code, for those curious about the vast
archive of software written for UNIX over its 20+ year history.

A package written a number of years back for X11R4 running on a strange
architecture will
more than likely not rebuild smoothly for a modern Linux machine. Yet,
with a bit of tweaking and a lot of patience, it might be persuaded to
work. This is sort of the Linux equivalent of rock climbing - thrilling,
but you risk picking up a few bruises. This HOWTO is dedicated to those
daring spirits willing to try.

Mendel Leo Cooper

         Linux-Mandrake 5.3 ------> UKP 3.00 each.

Coming soon: FreeBSD 3.1 (4 CD set) ---> UKP 10.00 per set.

These CDROMs include an El Torito boot record, which, on supported hardware
make them bootable.

The Red Hat CDs are made to order, and as such, will have all the Red Hat
updates to that time on the CD. Rather than having them in a separate
updates directory, we have opted to make them part of the install, so you
automatically have an up-to-date Linux system.

A large amount of extra software has been included on the CDROM, including
Corel WordPerfect (downloadable version) and Sun JDK 1.1.7 (for the
programmers out there).

A second CD is available, which contains all the source code. Red Hat
Linux is just too big now to have all the binaries and sources on the one
CD. This CD is also available, also for UKP 3.00.

The Debian CD set is the Official Debian GNU/Linux 2.1 (slink) 2CD
distribution.

For more information, and how to order, please visit the web page at:

        http://www.amush.cx/linux/

International orders accepted, but due to the cost of bank charges and
international mail, the prices will be slightly higher.

Sorry, we cannot accept credit cards. Cash (Pounds sterling preferred!)
and cheques drawn on a UK bank. International bank transfers accepted,
however subject to a UKP 2.00 charge due to bank charges. There is a
UKP 1.50 charge for postage and packaging within the UK, variable for
international customers.

Subject: COMMERCIAL: identifier completion, source browsing under Emacs/XEmacs

Xref-Speller v.93.4 for Linux is now available at addresses:

Primary site: http://www.xref.sk/
Mirror site: http://guma.ii.fmph.uniba.sk/xref/

Xref-Speller is a source browsing and advanced editing package
intended to C and Java software developers. It contains:

- - C and Java cross referencer. The cross reference file (even if very
compact) can be split into several files for very large projects.

- - C to HTML and Java to HTML converters making source code browsable
with standard Internet tools. Contains possibility to list all
  symbol's usages.

- - A plug-in to Emacs and XEmacs editors providing high level actions
  such as:

  - Context sensitive completion of identifiers.
  - On-line information on symbol's type (including profile of
    functions).
  - Source browsing. When you position the cursor on a program symbol
you can move directly to its definition, inspect all its usages
and return back to the original position.
  - Safe renaming.
  - Argument manipulations, such as adding, deleting and exchanging
    arguments.

Xref-Speller was tested on the Linux sources (about 1.5 million
lines of code).

Regards,

Marian.
