Excellent work!

The EGPIO is reset when the CPU asserts reset_out but is unchanged
otherwise.  The CPU definitely does that on resume, but I don't remember
if it does during sleep or not.

I think you're right -- if the battery is fully charge you should get
reasonable measurements from the DC input.  The battery acts like a
giant capacitor -- so you won't get fast responses to changes in power
consumption, but it should be fine for steady-state measurements.

I would get a plug and a jack to build a measurement point rather than
cutting the original power cable.  Your choice.
