The handhelds.org CVS should, IMHO, be considered as experimental stuff. If the code there didn't make it into Russell patch is mostly because it is either not mature enough, quickly hacked up or simply too badly written from a maintenance point of view. Yes it may work, but it also has to be nice looking too. By initialising the lowest power mode on boot up in h3600.c and ensuring each individual drivers is doing the right thing you'll end up fixing both modes at once.
