The 'best' I can get without statically linking in the sound modules is
with a fully modular configuration, and then patching up the:

Can't locate module: sound-slot-0 and sound-service-0.3

with guesses at aliaes for these in the /etc/modules.conf. I'm surprised
at this, I would have thought that the new 2.2.x PnP stuff PLUS the
isapnp config PLUS the modules.conf PLUS the basic kernel config
would be more than enough to specify the card type, location and its
services.

I can't find any documentation on these module names, and their
addition to the kernel code seems to have been pretty recent. I am
looking for that documentation! Has anyone put anything together on
this? There is almost nothing on dejanews or any other public site that I
can find.
