I had the same problem one time...but mine didn't go away...I had to
reinstall everything...the problem is caused by a corrupted utmp or wtmp,
one of the two...it also means pam is screwed...I had ppl try to tell me I
got hacked and everything...I was pretty amused...you got lucky...I wasn't
so lucky...kudos to you!
