I am trying to configure a slave NIS server. Irrespective of what I try,
nothing works.

I am running a master on a machine called numbat.cs.uwa.edu.au (aliased
to nis.cs.uwa.edu.au). The version of ypserv is ypserv-1.3.9-3. I am
running the same version on the machine I want to make a slave. In
/var/yp/Makefile I have changed the value to

NOPUSH=false

and I have added both master and slave to the /var/yp/ypserver files on
master and slave. I have restarted ypserv on master and slave. When I
try to set the slave I get the response below.

#> /usr/lib/yp/ypinit -s nis.cs.uwa.edu.au
Can't enumerate maps from nis.cs.uwa.edu.au. Please check that it is
running.

But the master is definitively running. On master and host, this command
gives the following output.

rpcinfo -u localhost ypserv
program 100004 version 1 ready and waiting
program 100004 version 2 ready and waiting

and ypwhich -m on the slave points to the master (numbat):

#> ypwhich -m
mail.aliases numbat
netgroup.byuser numbat
netgroup.byhost numbat
netgroup numbat
protocols.bynumber numbat
netid.byname wombat
services.byname numbat
rpc.bynumber numbat
rpc.byname numbat
hosts.byaddr numbat
hosts.byname numbat
group.bygid numbat
group.byname numbat
passwd.byname numbat
protocols.byname numbat
ypservers numbat
passwd.byuid numbat

I really would like to solve this. Any help will be most appreciated

Thanks

Hugo
