It won't and shouldn't make any difference at all. Though turning off those
aliases will keep the system from continuously hunting for them.
Add to conf.modules (or modules.conf as your system prefers)
alias net-pf-4 off
alias net-pf-5 off
alias ppp-compress-21 bsd_comp
alias ppp-compress-24 ppp_deflate
alias ppp-compress-26 ppp_deflate
Ok so I added the compression aliases too. :)
This still leaves untouched the reason why chat is failing.
