There are several ways to achieve this. The simplest would be to add a
line in your mail script to force diald's link down. Diald will close
the link down and remain running on receipt of a SIGTERM. So the
simplest way would be to add the line:
kill -SIGINT `cat /var/run/diald.pid`
to the end of the mail script.
