I'm using glibc 2.1.1... Since you encouraged trying 0.99, I did that
and had the same problem. But since I was trying older versions anyhow,
I also tried 0.98.3. Since it worked, I have to conclude that there
is something broken in the implementation of run_shell since it doesn't
seem to completely replace fork_dialer.
