This *looks* like a session or process group problem with the
tty device. Diald should be running as a session leader.
It should spawn the connect script in a separate process
group and this process group should be the foreground
group for the tty device used as the modem line. It appears
this doesn't happen for some people but I haven't seen
anyone come up with any information except the error message
yet - and, needless to say, it doesn't happen for me :-).
What shell are you using? What is your connect script?
Is anything else using the tty? Even a getty of some
description? What about the output of "ps axj" at various
points? Pay particular attention to the PGID, SID, TTY
and TPGID fields.
