On my Caldera distribution, the daemon startup scripts are in /etc/rc.d/init.d.
There is also a skeleton script in this directory that can be modified to 
start diald and renamed diald. I believe the scripts to be called are sourced 
in /etc/sysconfig/daemons. You can look at one that is already there to see how
to create a file to start diald on boot. You also might have to put a link in 
the rc.d/<runlevel> directory to the diald script.

At least you get to learn a bit more about the startup process.
