I did not attach the content to save bandwidth.
cron is a great start, but for better fault tolerance, and less
processor/memory crunching I would also look at inetd. (if the pipeline
has inet services)
The best ISPs still use Perl, PHP, sed, awk, etc. (fast, light and
managable!)
