I have nothing for the mag card reader (I could tell you some links
on chipcard readers though), but maybe a solution for your lcd problem.
Get the device driver at http://www.home.unix-ag.org/nils/lcd.html .
I modified version 0.152 a bit and am writing a sysinfo daemon that
displays any kind of information (simple texts) on the display attached
to a parallel port. The daemon works in a basic mode, that is it does
not daemonize itself (runs as normal program) up to now, it isn´t that
flexible I like it to be and so on. It is in pre-0.0.1-state, but I
think this will change within the next... erm... weeks :)
You can get further information on the ongoing development of lsd
(that´s the name of the daemon... lcd sysinfo daemon) on
http://lsd.sourceforge.net, as soon as I have some html-pages up there.
