I've got the MediaGXm with 5530 Companion to 1024x768 @ 16bpp by using
framebuffers (then running the framebuffer X-Server).

Tim,
I've used 2.2.12-20 (w/USB support) and 2.2.13-?? without any problems. We are
switching to 2.2.14 to get the "backported" USB stuff going and should be
testing it this week, but I don't expect any problems.
We're using the Media GX with a 5530 and DP83815 Ethernet chip (and compact
flash on IDE :). I haven't tried the sound "patches" yet, but hope to test
them this week too (thanks everyone for those).
BTW, has anyone had much luck with X-WIndows in 1024x768 mode on the GX?
Thanks in advance,
Ralph Stickley
