Dear all,

Maybe is is a FAQ, but anyway...
I have failed to boot Linux on Advantech PCM 5820 (NS Geode, 32 MB RAM, 32
MB Compact Flash as a master on secondary IDE). The following methods has
been tried:
a) Boot Linux hard disk from primary IDE, then use lilo
b) Boot Linux hard disk from primary IDE, then use mkbootdisk
(both (a) and (b) give: "Fatal: mknod /tmp/dev.0: No such file or
directory")

c) Boot Linux hard disk from primary IDE, then create boot (dd if=boot.b
of=/dev/hdc1 bs=1k; here /dev/hdc1 is flash memory) and root file system
d) Boot Linux hard disk from primary IDE, install LinuxWorks BlueCat, then
use the utility "mkboot"
(for both (c) and (d) installation process have finished without problem,
but I have failed to boot from Flash memory)

e) Use Lineo Embeddix (w/o hard disk, install from floppy)
(installation process have ended with message "No MBR")
d) Use Lineo Embeddix (w/o hard disk, install from floppy), then attach
primary hard disk and boot Linux from it, then use lilo with flag -r to
transfer the boot loader
(everything is OK untill reboot, the lilo prints only 1st "L" follwed by an
infinite sequence of error code 01)

I have no experience before in neither Linux nor embedded systems (the
project starts 2 weeks ago), so I think my question is foolish, but I
coundn't be able to find answer in any FAQ.
I suppose that the reason is MBR, or secondary IDE controller (from which
Linux cannot be booted), but when trying to install MS-DOS (Windows) into
flash, it boots OK :-(
If anybody can help I will be very grateful. Any suggestion or web site is
appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
gmres
