Are you sure that that's the best for power savings? Some of the arm
systems or things like the transmeta chip have some really low power
modes.

For an embedded system such as you describe there isn't really an
"easy to install" option.  They all require a fair ammount of
tweakage.

I suggest you look at some of the large players that have embedded
distro's like Lineo and use one of thier stock items.
