I have loaded the 5 rpm files that update Red Hat 5.2 for the new
2.2.0 kernel. They loaded without problems and don't seem to have changed
in any radical way the use of 2.0.36 kernels.

But every time I test the new kernel I get undesirable results.
The cause of these are because I haven't read every file in
/usr/src/linux/Documentation/ and upgraded every application indicated.
Nor have I re-compiled any application using the 2.2.1 kernel.

For 4 years it has been fun getting the new kernel from sunsite
and compiling it and then trying the new features. As of this week the new
2.0.0 kernel is no longer fun. Experts have pointed out how stupid I am
and made suggestions as to what I might do.

Instead of explaining anything I will send the results of my use
of the 5 upgrade files to the nice guy who did them and then just cool it
awhile. Nothing is bad about the 2.0.36 kernel and it works fine.

It's probable that I didn't configure the many kernel settings
like they should be for a simple one cpu, one hard drive system. I do have
the Unix stuff turned on and that may help.

But think about the guy who just got his Linux working, He gets
2.2.0 and starts config and how far do you think he will get?

Best wishes
