The FPGA was about $20 Australian here. The whole modem cost me $30-35
which is quite good, the parts for a Baycom cost me at least that.
I wouldn't say that the YAM PCB is trivial to make yourself, though.
We had to draw it up again because we need HPGL format to make the board.
