Subject: Triple-ISDN getting general protection fault

Hi,

I have encountered a bit weird problem lately. Running a server (Pentium, 2.0.35)

with 3 AVM-Fritz-ISA-Cards stuck inside for incoming calls on 1TR6 and DSS1,

the server _sometimes_ cuts every connection and seems to hang - you won't connect to
it

via ISDN until reboot mostly, but ocasionally it's getting back to work smoothly......

Hello

During installation you cannot configure the NIC. Therefore after complete
installation follow the procedure given below.

1. Execute the command "insmod tlan" at the prompt. 2. Execute the command
"netconf" at the prompt. 3. Configure the NIC by selecting the "Basic Host
Information option" and entering the IP Address, Netmask, Net device as eth0
and Kernal as tlan. 4. Select the "Gateway and routing" option from main menu
and fill in the detail of Gateway address and without fail enable the Gateway
option. 5. Accept the changes and exit from utility. 6. If you are installing
Redhat Linux 5.0 or 5.1 add the line "insmod tlan" in
/etc/rc.d/init.d/network. 7. To confirm about the configuration execute the
command "ifconfig -a" which will display the details of your NIC configured.

Your feed back is apprecieated.

Regards

Subject: VGA + Hercules ?
Date: 19 Mar 1999 22:55:22 GMT
Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Did someone ever tried to configure a linux PC with both a VGA and an
hercules (or MDA) card ?

My goal is to have the system console (syslog and textmode login) on the
MDA display, and simultaneously the XWindow display on the VGA.

The linux kernel doesn't seem to handle correctly both video cards on
its own.
If I start in VGA mode, the hercules display is ignored and inaccessible
from linux, and the boot log appears on the VGA display, which is not
what I want.

If I switch to MDA before loadin Linux (i.e. boot MS-DOS, type MODE
MONO, and use loadlin to start Linux), the boot log displays on the MDA,
but is screwed up (looks like Linux kernel uses VGA framebuffer offset
which is not supported by MDA). Furthermore, starting X clears the MDA
display, because it switches to VC7 !

Any solution ?

I've been following this topic with perhaps more interest than it
deserves (in this forum, anyway).

One for you, JR:

Suppose your local government (wherever you live) is having a big push
against "online drug peddling" or "Internet child pornography" or
"cyber-terrorism". Most are, after all. And say someone, just for a
joke, goes to a public cybercafe, sets up a Hotmail account with _your_
name, and mails themselves a kiddie porn pic, or a "how to make bombs"
manual, and then calls the police. Just because they don't like you.
Hey, it could even be someone you've been exchanging views with in this
newsgroup :-). Oh, and they copy your local paper too.

Now, the police are going to have NO trouble at all getting a warrant to
go through EVERY single file on your PC. They will have "experts" who
will want you to show them EVERY single file. And while you do that...
they will sit there. And they might just be impassionate observers...
or they might behave like the average 95-IQ white male, and make kind of
crude remarks about every file on your system. Certainly about every
scanned pic of your wife on vacation. And even if nothing worse comes
of it - even if the local paper don't say "Police called at the home of
an XX year old local resident in XYZ street, who we can't name, although
his neighbours know damn well who he is because they saw the squad cars
outside" - you will feel pretty shitty about the whole experience.

Has anyone got this printer working properly with ghostscript 5.10+?
Taking a look at the 1100's page on HP and the ghostscript homepage, I see
that the 1100 supports PCL5e, whereas most of the laserjets that ghostscript
supports seem to be PCL3.
I'm not too sure of the compatibilities between PCL5e and PCL3.. anyone
got any experience with it?

Stop trying to use a wide device on a narrow bus. You can go the other
way, but not that way.

Subject: Linux + Microtek ScanMaker X6 help needed
Date: Fri, 19 Mar 1999 22:20:07 -0800

Hi.

On my Windows side, I'm using the X6 connected to the parallel port. The X6
is, I believe, a SCSI scanner but it comes with this software thingy that
allows it to be plugged into the parallel port and make it think its
connected to a SCSI interface.

Anyway, I'm having a bitch of a time trying to figure out how to configure
this scanner under Linux using SANE.

Can any of you guys help me out ? Is it even possible to hook up this
scanner to Linux without a physical SCSI card in my box ?

Thanks

Couple of days ago davem and jj announced that they cooked a passable
Creator support. And BTW, I die to know if Linux lives to its promise
to utilize "about any" 3rd party PCI board.

Ok, thanks for the emails from several of y'all. I've made progress,
but am not there yet. I have downloaded and installed the latest
PCMCIA drivers, and am using the tulip driver for this card. Now when
I insert the card, here's the output:

Obviously, no etho interface comes up. cardctl ident corectly
identifies the card.

And, I modified /etc/pcmcia/config so that the "Linksys Etherfast 10/100
Fast Ethernet" would bind to "tulip_cb" and not "pcnet_cs".

Ideas anyone? As usual, your help is appreciated.

Brian

Even the EIDE version works (CRW4416EZ) works perfectly.

Anyone have any luck on getting the MX300 to work under Mandrake 5.3? I
don't necessarily need the A3D acceleration. I just would like to get the
SoundBlaster Pro emulation to work. I tried manually configuring it with
IRQ, I/O, etc. but I get an error that says sb.o is either busy or device
not installed. When I run the sndconfig app, it finds an unknown PCI sound
card. Any way around this?

You might want to look at the specs of the PDP-11 before you make
such assumptions. 8k (not MB, *kilobytes*) of RAM IIRC.
