You can find the CompactFlash spec at http://www.compactflash.org ,
free download. Use ATA mode for simplicity.

A draft version of the ATA spec can also be found online.

Simply put, you need to download the SiS X server, which can be found on
the SuSE website. I have a similar card (running COL2.2), and after
some adjustments, i got X up and running. If you need additional help,
let me know.

Hardly. The Linux Gazette and the Linux Journal has such things.
The concept is not the problem, the implementation typically is.

Besides, why would you bother with a medium that has such a great

Well, Linux itself in character mode doesn't. I'm running RedHat 6.0 which
comes with XFree86 version 3.3.3.1-49. It works fine with my ATI Rage IIC
which is an AGP board. I don't know if it exploits all the functions
of the board, but it runs just fine!

The board is nice if you run it within spec, but it can be a bit
unstable if you plan to overclock the processor. You may want
to spend the extra money and get the K6-3-450 though. They
scream with Linux. A friend of mine was able to compile emacs 20.3
(with the -j option) only a couple seconds slower on his K6-3-450
than a dual PII-450 machine I had (both were under a minute).

I have the AIWA TD-20001 SCSI. Not the same drive, but it is TR-5,
SCSI, and by AIWA. It works great under Linux. It is simply a SCSI
tape drive. mt, tar, dump, restore, taper, etc. all work fine with
it as /dev/st0, /dev/rmt0, or the non-rewinding versions /dev/nst0
and /dev/nrmt0.

Here is the output from "mt -f /dev/st0 status":

drive type = Generic SCSI-2 tape
drive status = 512
sense key error = 0
residue count = 0
file number = 0
block number = 0
Tape block size 512 bytes. Density code 0x0 (default).
Soft error count since last status=0
General status bits on (41010000):
 BOT ONLINE IM_REP_EN

I suspect the TD-8000 will work as well.

It also isn't terribly feasible. The regulation is so tight that the
supply with the higher voltage by even a millivolt will probably destroy
itself trying to carry the load by itself. I have 2 such pieces of
gear, and trying to make them truely stable when the designer didn't
understand the real world has made one of them into whats truely
excedrin headache #3. Some modicum of stability was finally achieved by
raising the voltages a bit, adding 0.1 ohm resistors in the individual
leads, and metering them to facilitate some semblance of load balancing.
It takes about 10 minutes to adjust them by 100 millivolts without
having one or the other go into convulsions.

Thats assuming the supplies are even adjustable. Most aren't, and of
course theres a vacuum resembling the outer reaches of the oort cloud
where the docs on those things should be.

Cheers, Gene

Maybe you should try a different kernel. I am running RH 6.0 / 2.2.5-15
kernel and my card is working (at least partially). I can listen to mp3s
and certain wav files but not midis for some reason (does anyone know what
may be causing this?). Anyways, I hope this helps.

There is a driver included with the 2.2.* kernels.

Recompile your kernel to include support and everything will be OK.

Search for 'cdrecord' and 'mkisofs' at Freshmeat or another Linux
archives.
