I have one of these cards. I could only get the card to reliably work
using the VGA16 driver. I await a better solution in the next release
(just like everyone else!). I did not have any luck using an S3
driver with this card .... your experience may vary

I've got a 32MByte and a 64MByte SDRAM in my computer,
but Linux recognizes only 64MByte (I got this information from
,,xosview'', ,,free'' or ,,dmesg'') .

Thanks for any advice, Aki.

Hi there!

We try to set up a webcam with linux, bttv and bttvgrab. After some
succesful tests we got a strange problem.

We are using:
linux kernel 2.2.1
bttv 0.5.19
bttvgrab 0.14.5
Terratec TerraTV+ (bt848 Chipset)

On a machine with an Asus MB and an Intel PII, everything worked fine,
but we have not had the time for extensive tests.
The production machines are having a passive backplane with a AMD K6-2
CPU-Card. On these machines we're running a cron job which triggers
bttvgrab to grab an image every minute. For about 10 days everything was
perfect, but suddenly the kernel was hanging (when we realized it, one
was hanging completely, the other still had network and filesystem but
crashed after some commands). The kernel messages gave no hints at all
(only the messages from the cron job and the module loader), they just
stopped some time.

I know that we are not using the current version, but the problem is the
long time to reproduce the crashes. I would like to know what the
problem is, before I update and wait another week or so.

Anybody has an idea? Is it the AMD-CPU or has someone made good
experiences with it?

Thanks everybody!
Martin Franke

Is there a way to install Suse 6.1 with a Adaptec 789x SCSI-Controller.

It seems there is no support for this type of controller in Suse.

??

Thanx

AFAIK there is no difference between 6: S1: or 93:
You can leave the 6: in and add S1: or/and S2: or/and S3: ....

Anyway, you wrote "in preparation for this new piece of hardware...".
Does this mean
you don't have the terminal yet? If this is true, than it's quite normal
if mgetty respawns too
fast. It can't run if there is no terminal attached, so it dies. Init
runs another one, but - guess
what - it dies too :)

If I'm wrong, you can still check mgetty log files, which are in my case
somewhere in /var/log. They should
explain what's wrong.

One more thing: you don't have to reboot the machine when you modify
inittab. It is much safer to
run "init q" which tells init to read inittab again. In case you made a
mistake in inittab, "init q"
would complain. Guess what would happen if you tried to boot the machine
with the invalid inittab ;)

Have a nice day!

   Matjaz

tell you so

There are 2 ways to resolve your problem:
1. Download the setup utility program (DOS) from 3com. Then put the utility
program on a DOS bootable floppy disk. Boot your system with the DOS bootable
disk and run the setup program to set which port you want to use.

2. Go to Donald Becker's site and go into "Ethercard Setup Programs". You
should see 3com family setup program in C source code. Download the source
code and compile on your Linux box (see instruction on the site). Run the
setup program and set the port.

I have tried both ways and they both work fine.

Hi,

please excuse me if the following question is a frequently asked one,
but I could not find an answer in the web.

I'd like to use my Fritz! Card PNP from Linux, but it does not work as
it is supposed.

I enter the following commands

... and HiSax refuses my card.

Subject: HP 8100: drive not ready for command
Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Date: 28 Apr 1999 15:22:11 -0500

I purchased an HP 8100 CD-RW drive about two months ago. I can play
and burn audio CDs on it without problems (haven't tried burning data
CDs yet).

Kernel 2.2.5-ac6 on a K6, FIC-503+ motherboard, HDs on hda and hdc,
CDRW on hdd.

For the last five days, I have been seeing the following in the system logs:

Apr 28 14:39:08 sparrow kernel: hdd: status timeout: status=0xff { Busy }
Apr 28 14:39:08 sparrow kernel: hdd: drive not ready for command
Apr 28 14:39:10 sparrow kernel: hdd: ATAPI reset complete
Apr 28 14:39:17 sparrow kernel: hdd: status timeout: status=0xff { Busy }
Apr 28 14:39:17 sparrow kernel: hdd: drive not ready for command
Apr 28 14:39:17 sparrow kernel: hdd: ATAPI reset complete

When this happens, the system freezes temporarily (which I think is
expected once the IDE bus hangs).

Searching back in the logs, I see that this happened back on the 13th
(29 times), but not before or soon after.

I'm guessing that this is a hardware flake in the burner, but wanted
to check if this was a kernel bug (Dejanews turned up nothing
promising). Anyone know?

There are several potential reasons why you're having problems on one, but
not others. Some BH6's are picky about how you insert your RAM. I have a
BH6, and thank goodness it's worked solidly so far. For *lots* of info,
