I have a Maxtor 20.0 GB DiamondMax Plus dirve. When I install the Mandrake
6.0 (Red hat 6.0) version of Linux fdisk only sees 8 GB!

I'm using an Asus P2B motherboard with a Celeron 300a.

Help!

AFAIK, aha152x is broken in RH6?!? I have the exact same problem,
although I was running on RH5 without any problems. Doing an insmod
aha152x with correct parameters recognises my CDR and Zip drives but
then hangs the machine.

According to the RH6 support pages, under 'install', adaptec scsi hangs
during an install from scsi cdrom (I can verify this!). I've tried after
installing from hard-disk and I still get scsi bus hang. I haven't
looked for upgrades to kernel/module yet.

Anyone else had any success eith this yet???

After waiting for almost a year for improved SiS6326 Xfree performance,
I have changed my mainboard last week... now using an ATI Rage Pro and
this is what I expect: super fast, no kernel freeze with bttv etc...

Get me right, I don't want to blame anybody for not improving the SiS
drivers... I just was tired of waiting and not able to improve them
myself :-)

I was running RH5 for about a week, before upgrading to RH6 which broke
aha152x completely! (Still haven't gotten it running)...

Anyway, back to your problem. Have you tried doing an insmod after
booting? I had the same problem and never bother trying to resolve it.
Since I was only running it for a week I did "insmod aha152x
aha152x=0x140,7,12,1" and it worked (obviously you'll use your params)
for me. Like you I tried lilo command-line, lili.conf and modules.conf
without any luck!

I suspect this is because the fonts displayed are not the 'default'
fonts but rather fonts specified in the html itself, which is why
changing system settings won't help at all.

I'm having the exact same problem (eg. <http://www.retrogames.com>)
which, from memory, specifies a font size of 2. I can barely read it!

Anyone know the solution???

You can find OSS driver for this sound card. It just works for the Vortex

Subject: Ensoniq Vivo90 & kernel-2.2
Date: 04 Sep 1999 10:42:31 +0000

Hi,

sorry if this is a FAQ, but I haven't been able to deduce any answers
from the net so far. Here is my problem:

With the old 2.0.36-kernel my Ensoniq Soundscape Vivo90 used to work
fine. Now in the new 2.2-kernel there is the sound configuration via
OSS, which doesn't seem to support my card anymore, as the README.OSS
mentions.
____________
NOTE! The SoundScape PnP is not supported by OSS/Free. Ensoniq VIVO
and VIVO90 cards are not compatible with Soundscapes so the Soundscape
driver will not work with them. You may want to use OSS/Linux with
these cards.
____________

I am certainly missing something, as it cannot be true that in 2.0 the
Vivo was supported but in 2.2 it is no longer (implying of course that
a commercial product such as OSS/Linux does not mean support).

These HowTo documents usually come with your linux CD (if you didn't
download it)...
Also, with redhat, it gives you the opportunity to install these
documentations in the setup program.

Try searching your cdrom for HOW (or lower case how) if within Linux.

Alternatively, download them, look on www.redhat.com....

I congratulate the lighting for destroying your billysoft modem. Now
you can get a proper modem, for your proper operating system :-)

External modems are the safest to go for... they are all proper
modems.

If you want an internal modem, try getting a ISA modem. though,
I have seen reports of Diamond SupraExpress 56internal modems working
under linux...

Sorry, not sure about USB modems... they certainly probably won't
work under kernel 2.2. Kernel 2.4 has made some inroads into
supporting some USB devices, I think.

Under Windows, if I put my monitor up to the highest resolution,
1600x1200, its totally unusable under windows - text is difficult to
read at the default size.
Yet, under Linux, if I do the same, it is quite ususable - the text
can be read. This also applies to 1280x1024.

Also, monitor is plug and pray, so windows should be using the
optimal refresh rates.

Anyone know why? The text fonts are the same. Not that I'm
complaining - just interested.

I installed RH6 on two ST11900N (1.7G) SCSI HDDs running from an Adaptec AHA
1542CF. The install was trouble-free but the system will boot only from
floppy, not HDD! It stops at lilo saying :"LI_". It does the same using an
AHA2910B but boots correctly from an NCR 53C810!
Re-did same installation using two 1.0G HDs and it boots fine from the
AHA's.
Can the hardware be incompatible or is there a software fix?
Will geatly appreciate any advice...
Thanks.
