I have never had problems with colmus on OO - it always works out of the box: 
I install OO, install culmus and then I can write (usually from left to 
right, but that is another problem :-). I don't expect 1.1 to be different, 
but I'll wait till Mandrake cooker will feature this version before 
installing it. a friend has the beta installed and uses it with true type 
fonts - again, zero configuration once the fonts are installed.
