In it can be a good idea to write your own #ifdef
or #defines or wrapping functions. It is quiet similar
(I wrote a complex UDP application that compiles on 4
different OS's so contact me privately for details).
The differences are in some types, errors and IOCTL's.

 Note that Windows 2000 has a bug (!) number Q263823
when using UDP so you need service pack >= 2 to be
installed + extra code to fix it.
 In addition you need to do some 'startup' calls to
enable sockets.
