        Methinks your problem is not related to sendmail at all, it is a
DNS/resolv.conf/hosts problem. AFAIK, if you are running a recent copy of
gnu/linux distro, then it is unlikely that your sendmail is compromised
causing this.
        As someone else here said, just make sure that the from: line in
the bounced mail does indeed contain a FQDN (fully qualified domain name).
If not the mail is going to bounce at your gateway.
